Counseling with Adolescents, Adults, Families, & Couples
Chris has over 30 years of experience working with adolescents and adults. His relatable and accessible nature allows him to connect deeply with his clients. Chris strongly advocates for each client, infusing humor and perspective into the relationship to foster an atmosphere of ease, safety, and openness.
Chris's approach begins with focusing on the client's strengths and the positive aspects of their life. He believes understanding the client's experience and how to utilize this experience in an often scary & daunting change process is essential.
Life balance is not just a part of our work; it's integral to each client's well-being. Understanding and maintaining healthy habits with diet, exercise, stress, sleep, spirituality, school, work, and relationships is crucial to our approach.
Therapeutic modalities are not one-size-fits-all. They start with identifying what resonates with each client. They can encompass a blend of the following (but not limited to) Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Humanistic therapy, Experiential therapy, and Existential therapy. This variety ensures that each client's unique needs are met, whether they are dealing with parent-child conflict, stress management, mood and anxiety, substance use, grief and loss, or phase of life challenges..
Chris is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), with his graduate degree from the University of Denver with a focus on Individuals & Families. Since 2002, Chris has worked in teaching, administration, and coaching roles in day/boarding schools, therapeutic residential programs, youth services, private practice, and educational consulting.
Originally from the Midwest, Chris spent ten years attending boarding school and college in the Northeast. After a year of professional hockey in Germany and working in New Hampshire, Chris moved to Utah in 1998. There, he combines his passion for the outdoors with his work in the mental health field. Chris finds inspiration from his experiences traveling and living in different cultures, working in various environments, and his adventures. He also cherishes the warmth and humor in the relationships formed and maintained throughout his life.
When he's not working, Chris can be found chasing his two boys with hound, Boss, in tow.
